What is strange about HollyWood is that all they do is try and make things as interesting as possible. Despite this, their constant pandering to the lowest common denominator, it has gotten to the point where what should be an exciting and brilliant connection between two characters, fueled by emotion, it is solely used for eye candy.
When will I see the film that finally uses sex as a tool to progress or digress a relationship rather than make it stale. Sure your average comedy film will make it awkward after sex but awkward is not a complex emotion. I want to feel the tension between characters, I want a movie that makes sex mean something.
The issue I have is without a doubt due to the flux of the mind numbing products of what the general public thinks a good film is. The kind of people who look solely at the movie and not it's purpose. Even in most romances these days they don't see sex as a way to develop the characters.
There was a Visual Novel I played called Katawa Shoujo and in the game the plot revolved around a boy who attended the school for the disabled due to him being diagnosed with a weak heart and advanced chance of heart attack. The game, being a romance had you developing relationships with people around the school and later as the story develops you begin a romantic relationship with one of the girls (based on decisions you've made). In each and every different possible branch of the story, the "romance" scene is used in the best possible way. Some are used to express vulnerability, some to express discomfort, some to express devotion and the list goes on. This is how you use sex for the advantage of the story.
Nevertheless, I can't really imagine the film makers of the world to make a change to this. It is to risky to try to do anything that doesn't follow the cookie-cutter formula the movie going audiences have set out for film makers.
