I've been noticing a lot lately that, people seem to have this disgust when the word "Country" comes up in a discussion about music. Now what pisses me off about that is that they are putting some actual good country in the same boat as the stuff they play on the radio. And I think it is because of the garbage that they play on the radio is the reason that everyone has this close-minded attitude around such a wonderfully unique and interesting genre.
I will admit I don't really listen to as much country as some other things, but that does not make the genre any less brilliant. I have immense respect for those who play it and those who write it. The Carolina Chocolate Drops, whom I had talked about in my post about the Hunger Games, are easily in my top 15 bands and their lead singer, violinist and banjoist(?), has won a Grammy for her work with the Chocolate Drops.
Another of my favorite country music artists is country-singer and actor Jerry Reed who wrote East Bound and Down for Smoky and the Bandit (Not great from a critical perspective, but fun nonetheless). Yeah the song is about driving trucks and stuff but the musicianship and actual skill ad thought put into the song is sound.
Hopefully, if you were skeptical of country music as a whole, hopefully you can look past the horrendous abominations that is currently topping the country charts and are open minded enough to look into some well made and fun music.
