Recently I've fallen deeply in love with some of the most astonishing series in all fields, from shot composition to musical prowess. David Attenborough's naturist documentaries are a crowning achievement in both film-making and zoology. The amount of work that he does research-wise and the power of a handful of people with a passion for beauty will never cease to produce a world of wonder and enjoyment.
Most know him for his series "Life" but there are some lesser known ones that I feel like everyone should be aware of. Two of my favorites are Great Migrations and Micro Monsters.
With Great Migrations, I find that what draws me to it is the idea that these animals are working in complete unison with their ancestors. Their are so many wonders involved in migration that are so astonishing that I can't help but think that they have a whole world we just aren't seeing.
Micro Monsters was a documentary series based around the world of arthropods and their struggles, journeys and adventures in making sure their genes pass on to the next generation. What fascinates me about this series is what is said during the opening sequence in that "80% of species on this planet, are arthropods". That is truly astonishing because it just goes to show how little we know about that bug on the wall or that ant that we step over.
To be honest, it's pretty hard to choose even just two of these as my favorite because I've yet to see one that hasn't shown me some otherworldly footage and great score (by the London Philharmonic Orchestra by the way). I strongly encourage you check out all his stuff and please don't watch one with some shitty famous western person they got because they think you're too stupid to understand a British accent.
